Mindfulness increases gyrification (folding of brain tissue), allowing the brain to process more efficiently and provide a better grasp on life's stressors.

Below you can see some mental health benefits of mindfulness; it is a sampling of some of the reasons why Light of Loving Kindness' mission is to promote the Hope, Health, Healing, & Wholeness through holistic, integrative solutions and Mindfulness-based Interventions (MBIs).

Fights PTSD

In a study published in Depression and Anxiety, combat veterans treated with Mindfulness-based Interventions (MBIs) had reduced PTSD symptoms and experienced post-treatment brain changes.

Improves Academic Performance

An article published on PsychCentral exploring the benefits of Mindfulness-based Interventions states, “Emerging research suggests mindfulness training can improve academic performance, decrease incidence of school conduct disorders and relieve stress among adolescents.”

Fights Memory Loss

In a study published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience authors explain there is “growing evidence that mindfulness meditation increases gray matter volume and concentration in brain regions such as the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, strengthens brain functional connectivity, and enhances psychological well-being which could be beneficial to counteract memory and cognitive decline.”

Helps Regulate Emotions

Frontiers in Psychology published an article on Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation which states, “Research has demonstrated the beneficial clinical effects of mindfulness-based interventions’ (MBIs) efficacy in a wide range of psychological conditions characterized by emotion dysregulation.”

Fights Depression & Anxiety

An article in Psychology Today explains that, “Mindfulness has powerful antidepressant and antianxiety effects because its focus is on the present moment.”

Improves Psychological Health

Focus, the Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry, provides evidence that “MBIs have been shown to increase positive psychological attributes, such as mindfulness, meta-awareness, and self-compassion. In addition, MBIs have been shown to reduce negative thinking patterns and reactions associated with psychopathology, such as rumination, worry, and emotional reactivity."

Improves Resilience

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand published a study that clearly shows Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training as a health care intervention has a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the majority of research participants, for some, these changes showed profound, significant improvements in participant quality of life and ability to deal with life stressors.

Reduces Suffering

The Journal International Scholarly Research Notices found that therapists and researchers should be encouraged to apply mindfulness skills and deep contemplation to the design and execution of studies aimed at reducing suffering in those afflicted by difficult physical conditions.
